Why bells ? They are hard to transport on and off aircraft and come in various sizes. Why not clocks. They are brass and more convenient to take off vessels going into the scrapyard.
I would have thought collectors would put more value on such. They are a sure picture of time especially the radio room where the silence periods are imposed on the clocks face. I don’t have any bells or clocks apart from an imitation ships clock run off a battery. But maybe wonder why such interest in such a common artefact should raise so much interest. Cheers JS.

Well as in a previous post the main ships bell off the Rosewood , is in the murder room at New Scotland Yard. And the main ships bell was usually on the forecastle head and an item of navigational and maritime law to have. Not something one could stick in your hand baggage. There are probably many replicas of ships bells inscribed with ships name as norm but made for unsuspecting buyers. The originals would not be an easy task to lay your hands on. JS.

The last time I visited Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, the ships bell of HMS HOOD was on view to the public, the bell had recently been recovered from the ship
and preserved for posterity, HMS HOOD was sunk in 1941 with the loss of nearly 1,500 men, at the time I saw the Bell it was surrounded by red poppies, it was
a very poignant sight indeed, R I P to them all. cheers John Collier

Well first I would find out if possible where or if these ships where scrapped or sunk, if scrapped one could apply to those breakers yards for info, The grave yards of many ships are in India so I would send a letter to the Indian Consul to ask if there are any that they could find out about. I should imagine that most have been melted down for the brass; but one never knows ones luck in these things.
