Question concerning AND
Greetings, I have been researching the ships that my dad served on as an American Merchant Marine during WW2. Perhaps someone here may know what is exactly meant when an American Merchant Ship was described as being equipped with an AND.

AND ,not sure but could be.......Auxiliary Naval Defense; pretty much the same as our DEMS..........Defence Equipment for Merchant Ships, covered a multitude of sins, including dummy guns on the poop

Bill Morrison....you might have known Derek Penny he was mate in Seaforth Maritime , he was also an ex Runciman apprentice so I knew him from way back. JS
