    For some years, the late '50's and early '60's, I believe, the Bowater ships were manned by Furness Withy. I never sailed on them, but most spoke highly of them.
    Spent some time running into to St. John's, Bay Roberts etc. and into the Northumberland Straits to the Miramichi River in the "Beechmore"

    Hi David

    My Dad - Tom Young (originally from Sunderland) was an engineer on the Nicolas Bowater around this time ... my brother was born in 1961 and his middle name is Nicolas (after the ship - spelled without the H) and at school they were always trying to correct him. I wonder what name they would have given a girl ...

    Dad is still going strong at 91 and I am going to direct him to this site.
