Thomas Lane WW11
I have always believed that my father, Thomas Samuel Lane born 1927, was in the Merchant Navy from 1942 and that he was on the P&O ship The Strathallan when she was hit. I do not have the names of any other ships that he sailed on however I believe that during another sinking he was injured and was taken to a hospital in Dusseldorf and at some point retuned to the UK as unfit for duty and was sent to a military hospital in Wheatley.
If any knows anything about my father or can point me in the right direction of where I can research this matter further I would be most grateful.

Re: Thomas Lane WW11
A good starting point would be a copy of the ships last Log Book & Crew Agreements for the Strathallan to confirm he was on-board at time of sinking. These records are held at Kew under the ships Official No. 166371. Her records for 1942 are held in file BT 381/2128

Re: Thomas Lane WW11
Hi Marian:
Thomas (AKA Tom or Tommy) was born in Auckland New Zealand on 12/09/1927.
Yes, his father was George and step-mother was Rose Lane.
They lived in Romford, Essex but unfortunately I do not know what his rank was in MN.
Kindest regards
Jan
