Joseph Knight - Liverpool - Dock Board Labourer
Hi everyone
I’m trying here in hope as I’m researching my wife’s family and trying to find her great grandfather.
The only records I have are from my wife’s grandmothers birth certificate (born 1926) which names her father as Joseph Knight with a profession as Dock Board Labourer based in Liverpool. It’s not clear if it’s merchant navy or actual navy. Maybe it’s applicable to both but hoping someone here can confirm.
I’m also not sure if he would be issued with a navy service record.
We believe he died between 1937-1939 but not confirmed.
Any help or guidance on where to look would be appreciated.

Have edited the original post. My wife’s grandmother was born May, 1926. Beyond that we don’t have any additional information. Sorry.

Hi Doug your wife's great grandfather was a docker sometimes known as stevedore. He would have been employed in loading and discharging ships cargo in Liverpool docks. You may have to go back further in his history to find if he was a seaman before becoming a docker.
