Getting back to Tennents Lager... Forget what we paid per Barrel, but a barrel held 40 pints , on the Beechwood an old ore carrier we arranged the sauve decoration , and remember painting the deckhead black and putting up orange lathes across the open beams with hidden lights behind them and lacing plastic foliage intertwined between the lathes. Tennents put in the professioal bar. the actual area was the two cadets cabins which we never carried and removed the bulkhead in between. If it ever came to carry cadets again they would be the two luckiest cadets in the British Merchant Navy. If remember correctly we carried about 200 kegs every 3 weeks or so , which was about 8000 pints, those shore wallahs couldnt half drink. JS

If I remember we had Mcewans draught out bound on UCL and Orangboom way home all at 9 pence a pint including the water the barman diluted it with.
Carling Black Label was a good beer as were so many others.
Castle and Lion beers in South Africa, Forget the god one in Singapore but it had a bit of a kick.

In Sweden way back in the mists of time the only beer they had was 'near beer' at about half a percent. Told they did not drink because of drink driving rules.
    Very different story now.

When I owned the two pubs we had Trumans beers but were allowed Whitbreads tankard for some odd reason.

But I think many of the one time UK brewers are now cactus, if like us here in Oz a lot of boutique breweries springing up.

Oz beers are good, full strength ones with good flavour, though the Tassie Cascade and Coopers South Oz are not so good.

Friend of our came out a couple of years ago and was almost rat asrsed after a couple of schooners.
He told me many of the UK ones now are so low in alcohol kids could drink them, he was surprised ours was so strong.
But a long cold one on a hot day, no matter will always go down well.

But like you John now drink a lot of wine, her indoors loves it.

And speaking of Johhny Cash, my favourit, 'Sunday Morning Coming Down'

Whilst consuming my fair share of Tiger, I always preferred Anchor, best place for a qiet session, the Cellar bar on Collyer Quay, or, the Champagne bar for a more "entertaining" drink.
Union Jack club, if you could get in, Guinness was usually good.
