Re: Hello, not new here but moved from SN
Think I must have upset some one on SN some years back.
I was informed that my comments about 'alternative females' was not suitable comment for the site.
Gave them the DCM and never looked back.

Re: Hello, not new here but moved from SN
Mine and no doubt all our thanks go to Brian for producing the site.
No doubt at personal expense and effort.
But it brings great pleasure to many, it revives memories of times past, is good for research and it gives those who know little about who or what we were some insight into our being.
It has also been a source of learning for many such as I, who being in Catering knew little of deck or engine, my thanks to those who have through their input advanced my knowledge of both.
It has also created a site where new friendships have developed, old ones revived, and at times a greater understanding of who we are.
But having been at sea has made us a more resourceful, more creative and better suited for shore side life than those who never sailed.
We began at the Vindi and other such establishments as boys, but came ashore as fully grown men with our heads held high.
We are the last of a breed who gave their all, and at times their very being, so that others may benefit from those sacrifices.
We worked in conditions no one now would understand and certainly never allow, we toiled for long hours for sometimes little reward but enjoyed every minute of it.
So now through the efforts of Brian we relive it all daily with great relish,
Thank you Brian for all you have done for us.
Happy daze John in Oz.

An acquired taste, alas a site that has gone downwards in tolerance and morals, others may have a different opinion. They have a section called Stormy Weather, in which a select few feel it is their right to insult all and sundry to a degree that had they done it in the messroom they would have found themselves on #5 hatch or perhaps swimming, they call it banter, banter it is not, but basically they are cowards hiding behind aliases and a keyboard. A pity because there are some good informative members who seem to know their trade and their hobbies. Incidentally you don't have to stray into Stormy Weather to get insulted.
We have differences of opinion on this site, but we seem to sort them without being malicious

Re: Hello, not new here but moved from SN
I have been a member on SN for years, but could never get through the personalities, they had very little interest in any ones posts, and I always felt like a stranger there. There were a few foreboding members who seemed to rule the roost. One lad whose posts I enjoyed, writing about his ventures just dissapeared and nothing was ever said.

Re: Hello, not new here but moved from SN
What i find a bit odd is that SN just like this site is open to the public not just Merchant Seamen,
We have excellent mediators on this site so no such crap takes place.
There have over the years been a few who tried it on but got a shock when given the DCM.
