#1. Paul I assume you weren’t on the revolutionary series of the likes of the Wanstead series 1949 to 1950 . Who had a deadweight of 8,300 tons on a draught of 25 ft. 1 inch open shelter deck, the 3 similar built ships , Wanstead, Wendover, and Woodford owned by the British Steamship Company and managed by Watts Watts .They all had special innovations built in for their period of time. They could also operate in a closed shelterdeck condition on a draught of 26 ft, 6 inches. They had accomodation for 22 deck officers and seamen and master, 16 E.R.personell ,and 10 catering ratings , that’s 48 of a crew , and I am told the accomodation was luxurious even by today’s standards . Cheers JS
