hi all
hi all,
My name's Kurtis; I haven't served in the Navy or work on any boats of any kind, but I have a passing interest of the sea. I'm very curious about how things work and I'm in the middle of buidling a 74 Gun Frigate from late 1700's - early 1800's on the computer in 3D. This led me to looking for maritime forums cos I may have a few questions and I'm hoping to make the model as accurate as possible. I figured a forum like this one would be a great place to look!
Apologies upfront if I don't know the correct naval terminology for what I'm asking or reading about, but I look forward to interacting a bit on this forum (frigate aside).

Re: hi all
Welcome aboard, ask away, someone is bound to have the knowledge you require, albeit they will not have the personal experience of sailing on such a frigate!!

Re: hi all
There are some model boat builders on site . I know of one who sometimes looks in. He may see your post and if does will no doubt reply. About the only knowledge most of us would have on a 74 gun frigate is that it had 74 guns. Best of luck. Although it could of had 75 if it had a bow chaser . Regards JWS.

Re: hi all
Thanks all!
Enjoy the site, hope you have a good sense of humour ! LOL
I've certainly enjoyed the responses to this thread! haha
I do have to confess though that I wasn't sure where I would post the particulars of my project on this specific forum and I found another site dedicated to model builds, so I thought the politest thing to do all around would be to post my work there.

I do believe the one I'm building might have four bow chasers!

Re: hi all
Hi Kurtis,
I am sure I speak for many that would wish to see your completed model, please post a picture. I understand you are a little unfamiliar with the terminology, that is understandable, but without being too pedagogic, a 74 gun ship was not a frigate but a 4th. rate ship of the line. They were the workhorses of the any fleet, for instance at the battle of Trafalgar of the 60 ships of the line, discounting frigates and sloops, there were 37 74s. My apologies but that is what happens in coming from a Naval family, it is drummed into you, my Dad was in both world wars including Jutland, Boadicea light cruiser. Best of luck.
Cheers, Paul.
