    Red face Researching my Grandfather

Hi all, I am from Australia and have been researching for information on my grandfather. I believe he was in the Merchant Navy I found a listing for him in the family search Merchant Navy records but had limited information. I have a picture of him in uniform He wears Sergeant stripes and is surrounded with trophies. I am hoping someone might be able to help me with identifying these.
His name is large and easily Identifiable William Alexander Duff McEwan born 4th May 1918 lanarkshire Scotland. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello Helen
( Your quote ?? I found a listing for him in the family search Merchant Navy records ) What Family Search was that ? I cannot find any? You mention Sergeant Stripes, that would be Army!

Can you upload any Documents you may have on hand please.
    Thank You

I have posted a picture in the "can you identify this picture" forum on this site.. I wasn't sure if he had stayed in the merchant Navy and moved onto the Scots Guards as he had claimed to my grandmother..

    Added for Helen

At a closer look that could well be a Chief Technician in RAF some Years back, i seem to see the small propeller above the Stripes. ?? That could be in his Work Dress not his Parade Dress.

Wouldnt be the RAF Regiment would it ? JS. Although he does appear to have a lot of Brylcream on his hair , which however is more close to short back and sides JS.
