    Thanks for this Taff, Dad said the evacuation was quite civilised as the ship wasn't sinking. He still maintained (if I have got the right sinking) that the engines were damaged by lack of lubrication or fuel (he said oil) caused by near miss explosions. Thanks agin for all the help here.

    Going back to Dad's engines, as young lads (8 and 9) dad would get us to decoke the retarders on our Trianco oil fired boiler. He even bought us boiler suits from Rotterdam to wear when we did it. With hindsight me and my brother are probably doomed to emphysema.
