Default Help Needed Tracing Voyage Records - new member

    Hello everyone,

I’m new here – and am hoping for some help in accessing Voyage Record Cards information – so I can make a list of all the places my Grandfather sailed to and docked at during his time in the Merchant Navy 1944 – 1947.

I have his Certificate of Discharge will all the dates of engagement and discharge etc – but what I really want to understand is where his travels took him.

Can anybody help me please? Ship names and official numbers, place of engagements are below.

    Thank you very much!

    R296576 - William Thomas Harding

SS Île de France (Official number 173054) - Greenock, Scotland

Olavus (Official number 144057) – departure point illegible in CDC, arrived into Portsmouth, England

Queen Elizabeth (Official number 166290) - Southampton, England

Victoria (Official number 123811) - Dover, England

CID (Official number 146566) - Dock Street, London, England

MV Empire MacRAE (Official number 169507) - Dock Street, London, England

Otranto (Official number 146025) - Tilbury, London, England.

    Hello Robert
You will have to apply to the Guildhall Library London for those Cards but at the moment they will be closed until all Health issues are over
Here is the Link in the meantime
    Cheers

PS You will need to give the Dates of each Ship as well when applying so as they can get the correct Cards out.

You have his Discharge Book so this is just for interest sake Link to his Seamans Pouch

Thank you - that is very helpful!

I have all the dates of engagement and discharge so I believe that I am well placed to request them once everything opens up again.

The link to his Seaman's Pouch is also much appreciated!

    Best wishes,

    Robert

    Hi Robert.
The Queen Elisabeth was trooping during the war, as I think the Otranto, one port the Elisabeth would have been is Sydney, should be pics somewhere of her there.

Thank you Des - much appreciated. That fits with a few photos I found from my Grandad's war times. One was in Sydney, another Port Said, Egypt and another in New York.
