    Default Looking For Help

    Dear All,

My name is Robert Bluett and I am looking for any information anyone can give me on my Great Grandfather. I am starting some research for the family tree and have found a bit of information already from a few online archives, but am coming up against a few bits of conflicting information.

My Great Grandfather was Frederick John Bluett, Born Hallsands 1898. I have been made aware that he pursued a career with the Hain Line and have this info so far:

He first went to sea as an apprentice on the TREMORVAH Official No 115650 and then the TRELAWNY Official No 122653, between October 1913 and October 1917.

    1918 TRELAWNEY Official No 122653

    1918 GOENTOER Official No 140135

    1919 TREVIDER Official No 133217

    1922 TREWYN Official No 142577

    1923-1924 TREBARTHA Official No 142579

    1925-1928 TREVANION Official No 133212

    1930-1931 TRENEGLOS Official No 137869

    1931-1932 TREMATON Official No 142574

    1933-1935 NIMODA Official No 149980

1935-1936 TREHATA ex NOHATA Official No 149988

    1937-1940 TREWELLARD Official No 164680

Finally I have him as Master on RFA armament stores carrier CHATTENDEN ex EMPIRE CHUZZLEWIT in 1943-1946

Any leads or info on the man himself, shipmates, pictures, ship info or general history would be gratefully received.

    Thanks ahead of time,

    Robb

    Hello Robert
    Thank you for the Posting.
As i see you have a lot of info so far,it looks like you then have his CRS10 , CR10 or CR1 OR CR2 Documents ?
If so then they will have most all info that is available on him.
Possibly by luck there may be someone who knows more on him but that is a long shot.
Anyway hope you get all that you require.
    Good Luck
    Cheers

NB The File Link that Terry gives is a good one and is available Free TO LOOK AT AND COPY AT THE national Archives Kew. Online of course Payment is required as stated.

Thanks for that, I did pay and download a couple of bits from the archives mentioned and am also going to try and arrange to go and see some of them in person with my Father whilst he is still alive. He is particularly interested in the topic and would really love that so thanks again for the heads up! I got most of the info from another genuinely very helpful chap:

    Graham Thompson

    Archives Assistant

    Royal Museums Greenwich
    National Maritime Museum

Who also pointed me in the direction of some of the documents I think you mention an just dictated the info.

If anyone else here is looking for some good starting point info with just a name and maybe a year, then Graham may well be able to help. I emailed him on (manuscripts@rmg.co.uk) and went from there....

One of my main goals now is to try and find out any involvements my Great Grandad had during the Wars. There are various references to boats he served on being torpedoed and other terrifying attacks on what I presume were civilian ships in peace time, but trying to find if he was actually onboard at the time is a bit harder. I have started to get info from https://www.wrecksite.eu/ (which also seem to sell images and info for download) but wasn't sure if it was decent or maybe if anyone here had any experience with that site?

Thanks Ron, it certainly seems that way which is in sharp juxtaposition to most of modern life

There is also the Movement Cards (Voyage Record Cards) from the Guildhall Library that you may like to investigate, these Cards will give you the exact movement of each Ship, thus telling you more as to where your Dad was at the times mentioned!
    https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/thin...e-history.aspx

I and others on site obtained our VRC Cards from there ,some good info on them too.
Lastly it would also give you more info if you got Crew Lists and these do have a lot of extra information on each File of a Ship.
I applied and was amazed at the info i got back, besides who was with me on a Ship, all the little things that happened are recorded ,almost like a Log Book
    Cheers

Some or in your case may be all are available from them at the University of Newfoundland Research Centre
A Mrs Tanya MacDonald is the one to contact she is great in finding lists if they are there. Tell her that Vernon advised you to contact her.
    Cheers

Just a snip of one Ship showing that they have the records there so may be well worth the investigations
