    Default Hello

Doing some family research, my father was a Master Mariner and looking to find some notes or anything about him and vessels he served on. I have some lists etc so will search around the forums, his name was James Cameron Quilter and he was in the service from around 1927-1970.

    Hello Jim
Thanks for joining and for your post.

I have done a quick initial search on the name but there does not seem to be any Record for him at the National Archive??
This is strange if he was a Master Mariner, and lesser before.

As his Service Years are within the search scope at the NA ,as said it is very strange!
Anyway i will keep looking, possibly he may have a CRS10 but that can only be verified by asking for a copy which is costly.
    Cheers

PS Where was he originally from??

PS Just a pointer ,if he was stil in the Service after 1972 which is possible by your posting, then there will be no records kept ,as they ceased Record keeping after that for some time.

Have done another search in different Section and came up with this
Is this him ,looks like it is??

    Reference: BT 395/1/79763
    Description:
Medal listing of Quilter, James Cameron
    Discharge number: R95946
Date of Birth: 28 August 1911
    Date: [1946-2002]
Held by: The National Archives, Kew
    Legal status: Public Record(s)
Closure status: Open Document, Open Description

If it is you can Download Document for GBP 3.50

As he has a Medal Listing dont know why there is no Seamans Pouch? But he must then have a CRS10 which in any case hols a lot more info for you.Cheers

Unless as i have said he was still at Sea after 1972

    Hi Jim.
If you have any names of the ships he was on post them on site, never know if someone here may have sailed with him.
