    Default boy sailor

    Hello
Thanks for welcoming me to the site.

I am researching the sea career of Morgan Anthony Swidenbank of Pontlottyn, South Wales, Glamorgan and I wondered if you could please help.
According to the Liverpool Maritime Museum record D/Con/13/9, Folio/Page 60 viewed on Find My Past he began training on HMS Conway in 1887 age 16 – with a birthdate of 14 Mar 1871.
His List of Testimonials and Statement of Service at Sea, below, show he first went to sea on SS Volmer, for seven months 24 April 1884 to 19 Dec 1884 – he would have been aged 13.
Can you please shed light on this as I find it confusing?
    I would appreciated any help
    Kind Regards
    Roy

I would say that he went to Sea as a Boy Rating at age 13 for a period of time .
He then at age 16 went to do his official Training with HMS Conway
This is just my thoughts on this
    Cheers

Think it may be an idea to get the full Records from the National Archives if they are there.
The University Research in Canada also holds Records of Seaman possibly they could help ??
    Cheers
