Crew list, S S Maori
I hope this works as I'm not at all sure what I'm doing!
In August 1909, my Grandfather Bill (William Cornelius) O'Brien, was working as a fireman on Shaw Savill & Albion's S S Maori when she went aground an hour out of Cape Town on the way from London to Dunedin New Zealand.
I don't know when he went to sea so I'm wondering if there are any records or crew lists that might give me any information such as when he joined SSA. He was just 18 at the time the Maori was wrecked so presumably hadn't been at sea for long. I remember him telling me when I was a kid of seeing Rio De Janeiro.
Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Crew list, S S Maori
Thanks Doc,
He was born on 16/01/1892 at Hakataramea, South Canterbury, New Zealand. Thanks for the other information. I have emailed Southampton Archives and await their reply. I have some newspapers he kept reporting on the wreck including a photo supplement (all in poor condition now) and would attach a photo of the survivors if only I could work out how to!
Regards, Peter
