Hi, I'm Dennis Todd, UK 007406, in the early seventies I was an Engineer with Palm Line (M.V.Lagos Palm) and then Union Castle (RMS Edinburgh Castle and RMS Pendennis Castle)
As a then "wet behind the ears" twenty year old, I had a brilliant time. I still regard those days as being the highlight of quite a varied career.
Last year i was put in contact with a friend I had not seen since early child hood. He was in put in to care when his Mum was away at sea and so saw little of her and eventually lost contact.
He has asked if I can trace his Mothers sea time and which ships she sailed on?
The details are very sparse but any help at all or just pointing in the right direction would be most appreciated.
His Mum's Name was Eula Chiltern and she was born in 1934 on 2nd October in Woolwich London.
There is little I can tell you about her time at sea or how long she was at sea for. I can say, she worked on Rhodisia line. in her earlier days and ended with P&O Oriana.
We have no details. discharge book No etc
As I say any help would be appreciated,
Kind Regards,
Dennis

Welcome Dennis
Thank you for your Post and I hope we may be able to assist in time!
Just one question and I hope you don't mind, but is your Spelling of that Surname correct for the Lady in question as I too have looked around and cannot locate that Surname ??
But will keep on the Search
Good Luck
Cheers
PS Was that the Rhodesia Shipping Line or the Rhodesia Castle ??
I think not too sure as I have not head of it but could be the Rhodesia Line ?? was at one time part of the Union Castle Line/
Other than that there was a Rhodesia Star of Blue Funnel ???
Possibly if it was yo can look up the Crew Lists for her!

Hello Keith,
Many Thanks for your help, Yes there was a spelling error, her name is Eula Agnes Chilton, and after speaking to her son her DoB and place is accurate, and her DoD ties up as well, so he is convinced that this is his mother.
If we can gather any more information for him I'm sure he would be grateful.
Regards,
Dennis Todd

Re: New Member
Hello Doc, It's nice to have such a swift reply to my query regarding this Lady. "Keith at Tregenna" has given me Eula Agnes Chilton.
Her son has a different surname to her but is convinces this is his mother, and as I said his contact with her was few and far between.
Regarding the shipping line; we have no accurate information only our 60yrs + memories.
I'll look through the UCL staff register and see what comes up.
Again,
Many Thanks,
Dennis Todd
