Thank you from Shelley - Daughter of Ronald Richard Corbett (Deceased) - No 794011
My father died recently and I inherited his discharge book. I am very interested to know about life on board, if he is remembered by anyone on these forums and anything else at all! I have added his details to a crew list and I am keen to find out about his time on board.
My father recounted a story about a ship wreck - I dont know much about it or exact dates. If anyone could shed any light on this also, I would be very grateful. If there are any places to visit in the UK relating to these ships or places or any photographs that anyone might have of him do let me know. We only have his discharge book.

A quick look for now, it is difficult to know which ship but,
if there is a connection with his list of ships can suggest:
Earlsfield MV (1956~1967) Katie H. MV [+1972]
He may have heard of the demise of one of his early vessels ?
cause lost:
collision
date lost:
07/03/1972

Will look at all again later.
Regards,
Keith.

Re: Ronald Richard Corbett
He was a painter and had painted a shipwreck that he said he was in. I seem to recall him saying he was caught up in one, almost drowned but was saved? I am not sure how that could be since his original discharge book remains? Unless it may have been during his time training with TS Formidable? (The National Nautical School, Portishead) - He told lots of stories to us as children (we stopped listening as teens!) he was a big character so we could never tell between truth and fiction!

Re: Ronald Richard Corbett
I will look through the list of ships again later.
Hopefully, someone on site may have heard of the incident.
Wondered if you could upload a photo of the painting, may help ?
Again possibly more details: Full name, date of birth and place etc,
may assist others to look further into records etc.
Fingers crossed.
Keith.
Added: Realised much apart from date / place of birth is in post #1.

Re: Ronald Richard Corbett
Unfortunately, I dont own the painting and I dont think it will help as its a bit abstract! Its of a stormy seascape.
Dad (Ronald Richard Corbett) was born in Swansea, Wales. He was born in 1947 (I have seen that his records exist at the National Archives at Kew - I may have to visit).
I know he went to places such as Newfoundland, New York, Liverpool etc
Ive not got much to go on, just this record book and hazy memories of stories (completely unhelpful I know!)
I so appreciate your responses.
**I have noticed from some early forum posts that he was a member of this merchant navy forum himself around 7 years ago! he was seeking old Nash (national nautical school) boys - he held reunions and got a headstone placed at St Peters Church, Portishead in remembrance of those who had passed the bar. Very passionate about it he was**
