I seem to recall him saying he was caught up in one, almost drowned but was saved? I am not sure how that could be since his original discharge book remains?

That is quite possible Shelly as the Books were held while at Sea by the Captain or someone who had a senior Rank on the Ship.i would expect that although the Ship went down and only as I se it 1 Seaman was lost, meaning that all the other Crew were OK and quite possibly if not certain that the Discharge Books were saved by whoever was in charge of them at that time, this of course is only suppersition possibly others can enlighten on this ??

    Hi Shelly
So not to get all this confused i think that these posts should be merged with your other where more info is forthcoming??
    What do you think??
    Cheers

What I can do is transfer all replies from the Crew List (Leaving only the Crew List one there as it should be) and then close that Crew list one so as there cannot be more replies there ,that will leave this Thread open for ongoing research.

I can do that if it suits you,we have had others similar and it got all mixed up.

    Google
In the particulars of training pages it says "service discontinued" 30-5-67
Looking in the book, the signatures are hard to decipher but look like the following:

    A Williams or McWilliam(s)
    McMillian?
    B Tiffin?
    P Keefe
    B.S Biggs
    LW Goodwin
    R Seward
    Harkins

    Not that I can see.
The first entry is for 'British Trust 301003' 21st dec swansea 1963 til 1st april 64 - Instead of a first signature it simply says 'extract from Dis 1' and then a stamped signature of 'a Williams' (I think its williams)
I was wondering if this is a replacement book? I have no idea - perhaps I am clutching at straws!

    The rest listed here are:

    RFA Wave prince 181127
    Earlsfield 169238
    Nicholas Bowater x 3 entries 187806
    Sarah Bowater 186287
    British Guardsman 301004

My other thought (instead of a replacement book) is that he just said he was in a shipwreck to woo the ladies!
