here is what I found out about the Castilian Prince ,Steel Cargo ship built in 1919 in Middlesbrough for the Ellerman Line. In 1943 while carrying a cargo of munitions to Lisbon struck the East Platers Rocks off Angelsey in North Wales and sunk

CASTILIAN PRINCE (4) was built in 1923 by Furness Shipbuilding Co. at Haverton Hill with a tonnage of 3908grt, a length of 364ft, a beam of 52ft 2in and a service speed of 12 knots. She was completed as the Sycamore for the Johnston Line Ltd in November 1923 and transferred to Prince Line Ltd as the Castilian Prince in 1926. She was sold to Sovtorgflot of Odessa in 1932 and renamed Enukidze. Thereafter she was renamed G. Yagoda in 1935, Michurin in 1937and Voroshilov in 1946 before reverting to Michurin in the same year. She was withdrawn from service in 1965 and subsequently deleted from Lloyds Register.

Yeoman Norton Clare joined CASTILIAN PRINCE in October 1928 and was aboard serving as third officer in 1930 probably not continuously I suspect he served in SIBERIAN PRINCE in November of 1928.
As I said previously, he died aboard TUDOR PRINCE in 1943 but ironically he also served in that ship in 1940. His career seems to be mainly Prince Line ships.

Hi Hugh .
Thanks for the correction, so many ships in the old days that probably went down in the 1'st war to be replaced by a ship of the same name. and as we know the same thing in the second.. It shows how things can be altered by mistake. I think that the first ship I sailed on was the third with that name.
I was surprised at what has been discovered from an old photo and some papers from a house in Boston.

No worries Des. You are correct so many name changes can be a problem. I posted a photo of the wrong ship too but quickly realised it was wrong and deleted it - we all make mistakes.

On the back of photo 1 (ship photo) it says:"CASTILIAN PRINCE at Santos, Brazil."
On the back of photo 2 it says:"Taken at Santo".
On the back of photo 3 it says:"Taken on the way between Bahia and Trinidad Sept. 1929".

Best I could do with the quality.
