Yes Bill it sure could be at times! That Mad Mitch name brings back sad memories (no worry now though) as my Late Brother served withmercenary forces in the Belgium Congo with then also called Mad Mike (Mitch) Hoare he had such a terrible time ,and through that Service he lost it sadly and did the most awful thing (will keep that to myself) but he died of the result!

“A Crab” is an term of endearment to a member of the RAF , by all Matelots, back in the bad old day in the RN before the fonding of the RAF, when Sailors caught an anti social infection in their nether regions it was treated by a “Blue Unction “ commonly know in the RN as “Crab fat”, when the RAF uniform colour came out, Jack was delighted, hence the nickname “Crabs”.Quote:

The third of what was considered the lesser of the social diseases, it had the privilege if caught with the other 2 of having achieved a full house. The old sailorman and talk was you were never a sailor until you had caught at least one of them seven times one for each Ocean/sea.
