Re: Hello from Cornwall
Hi Keith thanks for the post what a great piece of history, very interesting Must be cool to have a ship with your family name. You also mentioned Barry I remember going there many years ago when all the steam engines were being scrapped, row upon row seemed an awful waste then and an even bigger one now. Also remember Fyffes or Geist banana boats used to dock there. Best wishes Kenny boy

Re: Hello from Cornwall
It was Geest at Barry Docks. Woodham Brothers or as we knew it the scrapyard was where 297 withdrawn British Railways steam locomotives were sent, from which 213 were rescued for the developing railway preservation movement. Tregenna is a family tribute but, not the family name. A long story stemming from my pre computer working title: Her name was SS.
Regards.
Keith.

Possibly of interest: http://www.merchant-navy.net/forum/p...m-railway.html
Keith.
PS: Tried to get a Merchant Navy Class train to our Barry at War event a few years, Was told she was to heavy for the bridge, settled for the Red Arrows, took a bit of weight of the old bridge.

Re: Hello from Cornwall
I will ask the boy's at the MNA Barry meeting on Wednesday, Joe our Chairman would possibly know, in his 90's and sharp as a button.
If Dixie was a local, one or another will know.
Ashore he may have had a different name.
This way: Jones the milk, Dai the Cobbler, Reece the cook etc.
Popeye the sailor man, a bit more Dixie ?
Keith.
