Re: Lewis Drake
We don't believe that the Empire ship is the right Avisvale. We did find the following which fits better with the dates. Ocean Faith 5.42 G.M. 20 1942 Ocean Faith, MOWT (Headlam & Son), Manchester.
15.8.1943 Bombed and damaged off Portuguese coast
1946 MOT (Neill & Pandelis Ltd)
1949 Avisvale, Ascot Shipping Co, London.
1954 Aviation & Shipping Co. Ltd, London.
1955 Uje, Cia de Navegacion San Rocco S.A, Puerto Limon, Costa Rica.
1959 Same owner, Panama.
1962 Scrapped Italy.
Oh I am learning so much so soon!

Re: Lewis Drake
I don't know whether the information I have is useful or not;
On the death record it shows ss Avisvale, official no 168559, Registry Port London, Aviation & Shipping Co
I have details of pay on a letter from Ascot Shipping Co and a letter from the National Union of Seamen showing a reference of 697104/U which could be his union number.

Re: Lewis Drake
I haven't been following too closely where info is got from, but if anyone unaware on the old Articles of Agreement your last or previous ship was always entered. If someone was transferring records years ago there may have been errors made here by misreading names . Just a thought. JS

Re: Lewis Drake
Hi Alison.
I have tried looking for notice of him in Sydney, I did have a site that listed all British seamen's deaths in Sydney and the ships they were on. I haven't had much luck so far but will give it another go tomorrow.
Cheers Des.
Ps By chance mt brother was on the Ocean Faith during the war.

Re: Lewis Drake
Who do I contact or where do I search for Lewis's records please - i.e. Discharge papers (his journey was terminated in NSW 1951 where he died), WW2 Royal Navy medal index cards. Is there any other information that would help me?
He had photos of HMS BYMS 2062 and K570 (HMS Inglis - I think) - are these likely to be the ships he served on?, A member found passage details for SS Marengo in 1948 and 1949 and we know his last voyage was on SS Avisvale.
Are there likely to be any more records and where do I find them
