Re: Abuse at Sharpness Seamans mission
it takes a while, but the grey matter finally kicks in and other thoughts come to mind. John f, ....... what you mentioned about hanging and an erection may have come from the comparison of the erotic practise of standing on a chair or similar stand with a tightened noose around the neck, watching porn or such and pleasuring oneself. at the moment of climax, you are supposed to release the ligature. but alas, like the preverbal knee trembler behind the bike sheds, the knees buckle and you fall off the chair etc, game over. much to the embarresment of family when all is made known.
Back in 2011 there was a thread posted regarding the mission at sharpness... capt kong gave the name of the rev there at the time... quite a few members gave their views at the time.
regards, stan

Re: Abuse at Sharpness Seamans mission
Stan think rigor Mortis comes into the equation somewhere. Was going to say Rigor Morris but as someone may have that name don't want to be sued. As for the twisting of the left ear was told this was to get rid of an embarrassing situation when much younger. The school I went to it was quite usual to see boys going around twisting their ear, after I told them. Especially when on wet days the exercises outside were cancelled and had to join the girls at their dancing lessons and there you were in a pair of shorts and vest going around like a one masted yacht. Think the teachers must have known this and had a good laugh to themselves later in the common room. Bet Cappy was twisting his ear all the time when dancing with his favourite teacher. Cheers JWS

Re: Abuse at Sharpness Seamans mission
Hi All.
As Cappy says there used to be boxing at the Vindi, if you had an argument you settled it in the ring and in one match when i was there a big redhead was punching the lights out of this other bloke and they had to stop the fight. A few years later i was on the British Fern, just after we sailed I spotted this steward in an alleyway,I said I know you, last time i saw you was on the Vindi having your lights punched out. He said he had been fed up with the big Redheaded guy bullying him, he was a bit effeminate, I asked him how come he was like that, said a Scout Master had been abusing him when he was little. now he never mentioned anything about abuse at the Vindi or Mark Allen. Many of the lads when I was there had been given the choice by a magistrate of either going to jail or sea school, some were hard cases if only 16 but they toed the line, I can't imagine anyone putting the hard word on them, still stranger things have happened at sea. As for Mark Allen, I'm reminded of him every time I see the vicar on Dad's army.
Cheers Des.
PS
If names come up over that program I'd like to know.
Cheers Des

Re: Abuse at Sharpness Seamans mission
I was at the Vindi in 1952, March till June,
I remember the Padre at the Mission, Mark Allen, he played the piano a lot, and gave us all a bible. He was certainly a strange character , and seemed to be very effeminate. Never touched me. never heard of anyone being touched by him so do not know if anything else happened.
I had a very nice girl friend in Sharpness so had no need of a Vicar.

Re: Abuse at Sharpness Seamans mission
I was often at the Mission in 1955 and did not see or hear any sign of it . Although at sea as a 16 year old there were some who would try it on . Lucky I could handle the situation as in the hotel industry ashore trying to grope the young commis waiters was common. "There is nothing new under the sun".
