Hello Everyone
Good afternoon, I hope you are all well.
I've registered with this forum today in the hope that it may be useful for finding out more information over time about my (step-)great-grandfather, Patrick Burns, who was a long serving member of the Merchant Navy from about 1924 to around 1960 or so. I beleive his father (also Patrick) was also a member of the Merchant service.
I've recently come across some of his CR1 cards from Find My Past which included lots of information about him, the ships he served on and his rating on the ships. I'm going to get the cards tidied up and transcribed so that I can put the period of his service into some order.
Maybe I'll find some of his fellow servicemen here!
Thanks for reading,
Hazel

Re: Hello Everyone
HI Hazel.
Welcome to the site which is a mine of information with some excellent people with knowledge of the MNs past. When you get the list of your Step Grandfathers ships list them with the dates he sailed on them, you may get some old shipmates replying.
Cheers Des

Re: Hello Everyone
Hazel when I saw the name Burns, I immediately looked up your profile to see what part of the UK you were from. But is from the wrong parts. The reason was on the off chance he was one of the Burns family who with the Phillips were the two main Pilots together with I think the Purvis"s. At some level when my son or daughter was doing a Family Tree it was found that either the Burns or the Phillips had married into the same family as self. However is a fairly common name and the wrong part of the world unless he originated from the Tyne area possibly around the Cullercoats area. Best of luck in your search JS
