#17... Hi Eric, I suppose a lot of us get various things out of the site. It brings back memories for many, gives a lot a reason to let go with their thoughts, and reminds us of our more youthful days. To me I only retired officially in 2002, but I think subconsioulsy I couldn't assimilate with a purely shore based ideology of life as they saw it, as was not alien to me, and even now sometimes amazes me the thinking of some whose experiences of life and the world in general are very much limited to what they read and are told by others with the same inexperience of life in general. It was like a breath of fresh air, or coming to the surface for the third time, on being able to communicate with people who had the same experiences of life in general. There are many of us who hope to follow on in your view on life and try to live it as it presents itself. Don't tell Cappy when you are having another party or he will try and get an invite, he has even been known to Gatecrash. All the best John S.

Eric, 91 and despite all the trials and tribulations life has thrown at you the spark still remains. You are of a generation where hard work and perseverance paid off, some how I do not see the younger generation of today making as good a show of it as you have. It is people such as you that show how it can be done no matter what life throws at you. More power to your elbow mate.

Had my eye operation yesterday, all ok, vision slightly blurred, but as you can see , can use the I pad. Hear many horror stories of hospitals in uk, but can only speak from my experience, and the one here is fantastic,cannot fault them. It's the joys of old age, bits stop working, fall off, etc, but still here and enjoying life, kt

Pleased to hear Keith. You've got me worried now about the bits dropping off. Will be going around hanging on to them. The hospitals out here are similar and most have a very dedicated staff. I never felt a thing when my wife had her two hip replacements, told her so, was a good thing she didn't have the full power of her legs at the time. Gave her the last injection yesterday for blood clotting and took the needles back to the chemist. She will no doubt get her revenge later. Keep on enjoying life its all that is left. John S

J.S. Fresh air comes from the postings for me too. Used to volunteer at a hospital years ago after my dear wife passed away. It was a hospital where she had hemodialysis treatment 3 times a week for nearly 15 years. Now I look after my Margaret (85) who lives in a Long Term Care home after a stroke last Spring but stays with me every week for 3 days for a 'Naughty Weekend'. Her speech is poor now and she suffers incontinence but is very loving woman and worth every effort to help her. Make no mistake I'm no saint but maybe my help is some kind of atonement. We were cavaliers and uncouth seafarers...weren't we?
Cappy would be welcome here as would ALL of you, party or not. Toilet seat always UP. The Fella Upstairs don't want me nor does the Devil Downstairs so I gotta stay here and make a nuisance of myself. Cheers, Eric

I had my cataract done in a private clinic through the NHS,I only waited a fortnight from having my eyes tested by the optician.I was only in the clinic an hour and a half in total,I think the actual procedure took about twenty minutes.Keith can you answer me this,as they were doing the actual procedure did it feel as though they were pouring lots of water on your eye.I wonder where all the water went I was fully dressed in my own gear and I was bone dry when I got off the bed,very strange.

Hi Eric, I have never been in contact with you before but I pick it up that you are a bit legendary, you must have loads of wonderful memories stored in your mind is that what keeps you so young at heart or is it Margaret? there's nothing like a girls company to keep you happy is there. I meant to ask JS how cappy is doing with his girlfriend Mary, she has a wooden leg and if you don't mind splinters she'll show you a good time for half a knicker, it was JS that that told me about her, cappy is a bit jealous and keeps her to himself. Whatever it is that you're your doing, keep it up it's working well. All the best JC.

Hi Jim, bit of an embarrassment really, had a lovely Phillipno nurse, lovely lady, but me being a bit deaf, she gave me the gown, and said what to do, I got all the kit off including my keck she came to ty my gown up and said, you can keep your underwater on !, not caple of handling any thing I wao feted, in my head, anyway, just a misunderstanding. Yes, you are right, no injection, just kept pouring this liquid into my eye, guess it was a deadener of some sort, was not painfull, just uncomfortable, lovely people, kt

I learnt a bit more from that thanks Jim, I'm the same as yourself NHS to private but in my case they have a 10 - 12 week waiting list, I can't wait to get it done.
