Thanks John, I've always been aware that there are people far worse off than me. I'm not whinging I'm just telling it as it is, I have lost one eye and also have AMD in my other eye, the war time bombing has taken it's toll and I am now profoundly deaf. I have to lip read, at the moment I can not do that as I can't see my sons face well enough and he has to write notes to tell me what he's saying. The NHS Hospital referred me to a private hospital as it needs to be done by a consultant, he said I will be able to see better when it's done, so I'm really looking forward to that. That's good Marian. Anyone considering inter ocular lens implants, I had the lenses of both eyes replaced in 2003 and today I went to my GP to have him complete the four page form 'NSW Fitness to Drive Medical Assessment". All good and for eyesight without glasses. As I am eighty-five next month I have to have a driving test and if passed have to do it all again in two years. Margaret is going to my eye specialist at the end of this month because she is blurring up.

Thanks Marian, as my eye got worse I assumed it was the AMD kicking in and thought it was going the same way as the bad eye, I went to my Optician for stronger
glasses, he told me it was cataracts, I was very relieved to hear that as I knew it could be done and with AMD nothing can be done. I am learning all of my microwave oven buttons by touch and how many times I need to push for the function I need, as I know it will get worse before it's done.
I am really looking forward to getting back on the site properly again once it's been done. Best wishes, John Collier

John, her indoors had one done just before Christmas and will be up for the other next month. No worries mate it is so simple. Before you know it you will be back watching the window again. Good luck.

Several years ago, had inplants in both eyes.
Only use glasses for reading small print.

J.S. Sad about your Bother-in-Law and at an early age too. Good Luck to him and all the others who have problems with their health. Doctors keep us alive much longer than in the old days. I had good eyesight after both cataracts done about nine years ago but stopped driving after finally having more heart troubles in 2011. Had quad by-pass in 1996. My dear wife passed away over ten years ago and I've lived alone since. No complaints 'cept that last Jan. lost all sight in my left eye. Cause was a stroke according to eye specialist. With my very good right eye I manage to buy and get delivered groceries on line also banking, emails, Skype, etc. On my own I do OK with lotsa' help from good friends and keep up to date with Smart phone. Family live FAR away but we keep in touch. Went down south last Sept to Chesapeake U.S. to visit my youngest son. No trouble to travel but needed assistance and have to use a white cane. Think I mentioned before.... Malt Whisky, Cigars, Music, Girlfriend now 85. Weekends together on my 12th storey balcony). Celebrated 91 years last month, had a great party in the apartment, some 60 or so friends dropped by. Don't remember much after a while. Some ladies came by next day to clean up. Looking forward to the coming Spring and Summer. Got to thank all you great chaps. Oops, nearly forgot Marian, (Chapess?) for the postings.... they keep me going... Cheers, Eric

Like Dennis post #16 I had the same operation just on 6 years ago. I had worn glasses from the age of 7 being short sited. The surgeon told me that once he had put the inplants into my eyes I could forget the glasses and use them just for reading, which is the case now. Good luck John and have a speedy recovery.

Hi John And Keith.
Best of luck with your ops, I am down for one in Canberra, but god knows when. So far my eyesight is keeping up, still a good driver, and read a lot but my Dr says I'll be lucky to pass next year.
