Re: Family research
Many thanks Tom you have confirmed a few things for me that I was not 100% sure of, namely,
Home Trade voyages were not entered into the seaman's Dis. A Book prior to WW2 and a paper discharge was in use up until then. The Dis A. Book was brought in around 1900 mainly to record Foreign voyages but it would appear that Running Agreements were also recorded. HT voyages were recorded after 1939.
I can confirm that the ship you were not sure of the spelling is actually ACHROITE.
Thanks again, glad you enjoy the site.

Re: Family research
Hi Hugh,
That 's interesting!
I wasn't aware of the difference between Running Agreement and Home Trade. In my ignorance I had assumed that they both meant that the ship was 'Coasting'. Ah Well - always learning!
