Very strange post from Mr. Smith. Cryptic code of Caterham ????
Graham,
Following your lead (also after not visiting the site for a while), Brian's update and your post prompt my offering as follows:
I joined EofE last year, having previously been unaware of the organisation. The years pass so rapidly that the 'Elders of Elders' must shortly become the 'Ancients of Elders' - ancient mariners even!
Since attending the EofE lunch in June '13 I've spoken by phone to the 2/E I sailed with on the Forcados in '66 and the Burmese deck cadet I sailed with on the Yoma, in '65. It was interesting, trying out the Burmese 'phone system, but I was finally successful on about the tenth attempt, dialling up via Skype, as the lowest per minute cost offering. He finished his sea time as skipper with a Japanese line. It is not impossible that we meet in the future since I have spoken also to his daughter, who runs a couple of businesses for him in Worcestershire!
Having also posted items on Ships Nostalgia, I was contacted by another ED engineer cadet from my year of intake, which has resulted in a couple of meet ups, with spouses; another potential EofE member.
Joining EDL was a good decision and EofE has rounded off the thing nicely with a few more layers of other members nostalgia and memories.
Gregor
(also known as 'Cornish' during my time at Riversdale).
