I gave one instant in one post marian, where the stewardess joined the ship pregnant unbeknown to others, and finished up engaged to the 3rd. mate. Many other similar cases no doubt. I personally know of a couple of others but is not my business and am not a marriage guidance councillor or telly by tit ( or your tongue shall be split) other people have their own standards and way of life. Is not other peoples business to moralize. The world would be a strange place if we all had the same moral aspects. Cheers John S

Marian #130, the said ladies were of all species from Captains wive's to female workers to female passengers, something about hot weather, engine vibration which is constant, and lean half naked bodies, seemed to bring out the primeval in the fairer sex, not that the male species were innocents abroad by any means, but the way some 'respectable' women acted when aboard ship had to be seen to be believed, also in some instances female crew members were of higher rank than the men who were supposed to have seduced them. As for shipboard remedies, no matter what disciplinary measures are taken against them, its like throwing a bucket of water on two mating cats, it may interrupt them, but it certainly wont stop them. Changing ships or in the case of RN dismissed the service is the only solution. On the ships I served on if females were aboard the men were not allowed on certain decks without a shirt or boiler suit, but that didn't stop some of the women acting provocatively and interrupting your work even though they had been told no fratenising with crew both verbally and by notices on the daily bulletin board. As I say seeing is believing.

#137, I had forgotten that story John, as to moralizing, wouldn't dream of it each to their own.
Harassment though is an entirely different aspect altogether I think.
#138, Crikey Ivan, Have you ever thought of writing for Mills & Boon:p

On the other hand at the other end of the scale, was in Portsmouth either 80 or 81 over the New Year period, must have been after these laws mentioned, that it was 5 matelots off the Royal Yacht which used to lie opposite us in the Naval Dockyard were caught having homosexual activities, and I heard they were court martialled and discharged from the Navy. What would be the case nowadays, given a medal and asked to appear in the Sydney Mardi Gras. Before Cappy asks I was not present, but saw what I believe was them being taken ashore. Was told this by a matelots wife who was partying on our vessel at the time, believe her husband may have been one of them. As said takes all sorts to make the world go round. JS
