Lerwick
Hi Roy used to work out of Lerwick on quite a few ships related to the oil and gas industry. Trying to remember the name of one bloke I knew who settled very comfortably there who was from the Falklands, he reckoned it was the nearest thing to the same as was possible. He was the big chief one year to the annual celebrations (Vikings funeral) and possibly many more. This would have been in the 80"s. Cheers John Sabourn

Hi Cappy, I was a proper sailor from Bolton.
The home of many famous Sailors. Like Captain Rostron of the Carpathia, Captain Lord of the California and Wallace Hartley of the Titanic and me.
Cheers

Cappy remember the old lifeboat in ocean rd. was classed as a monument. Think it was called the William Wouldhave. Who was he again, or am I getting mixed up again as usual with names. John Sabourn

no john your right the life boat is still there and a finer looking boat you wouldn't see willie wouldhavebuilt I believe the 1st lifeboat and at one stage a good pub in shields was the same name only yesterday passed the lifeboat with my missus and a grand sight it is but the thought of pulling that weight and length would make you thinkthey were much physically stronger than the average man now although they were all so much smaller men and as allways with those crews very brave regards cappy

Pub
maybe the pub was built to give them that extra bit of strength. Know the old saying guiness is good for you, so is Newcastle brown ale. Cheers John Sabourn
