hello to you all !
Hi everyone, im Cait, and ive just joined on behalf of my grandad. Mr Edward Brain, who served in the merchant navy. Im so plesed to be here
Ive spent alot of time trying to reasearch some of the ships he served on,which this year for his birthday i managed to present him with a book i made on the ' Nea Hellas ' or 'nearer to hell' as he calls it! Im very desperate to do more on the other ships he served on too.
Unfortunalty, grandad was taken into hospital last fri and we have been told he may have COPD.
I visited him yesterday and he has aked me to reseach these ships for him. So this is also giving me something to do while hes in hospital. I know he's a Vindi boy. When he comes home, hopefully the weekend ( praying ) he said he will try and remember and write down dates for me, which would help.
I love listening to the stories has aways told me!
Ive spent ges trying to find any info and pictures of the other ships but im not having much luck at the moment!
I have traced his Seamans pouch but its not available on line.
So here i am
Again hello to you all
best wishes
Cait

How fortunate too you have Cait to help research your career .
(Re the s.s. NEA HALLAS,I am presuming you mean the passenger/cargo vessel which was called that from the years 1939-1955.
There were 2 others, called NEA HELLAS but one of them was a very small Greek passenger ship, and only called that in 1963/64.
A later NEA HELLAS was a Cyprian cargo vessel from 1969-1977.)
I’ll just add some info about ‘your’NEA HELLAS to compare notes with what you have found already.
