SS Liberian 1936 General Cargo GRT 5129 (Was actually German Built)
Owned by United African Company which was a British Company and traded princably West Africa.

If there are any Crew Lists that survived, the only place that i know of would be the Archives Canadian University (Crew List Section)
    Hope this may help!
    Good Luck

    Hello Jim
The official No for the “Liberian” is No 164284, the ships log and official Crew Agreement should be in piece BT 381/1609 for the year 1941 held in the TNA Kew, I would have thought that a record of the incident would be recorded in the ships log yoy would need to ask for the specific date

    Detecting your browser settings

Generally the ships log for the WWII years are usually in the TNA Kew other earlier years could be in the MUN Canada

There are two years records in the NUM Canada 1936 & 1937
I didn't add these as there were not relevant to the question Jim posted

    Question s.s.LIBERIAN.....

The Arnold Hague Convoy Database shows LIBERIAN in two of the regular East Coast convoys from Southend to the Clyde in July 1941.Notice the date overlap, which means one of them may be wrong.? However, note that in EC 42 one of the vessels in that convoy,’NORTH DEVON', was damaged by aircraft fire on 5/7/41 and was taken in tow. Perhaps LIBERIAN too was damaged in the same incident.

    Hi Gulliver
Many thanks for the posting it was very helpful. The dates tally with the dates of my dads hospitalisation @ leith on the 7/7/41 and it was by gunfire from an aircraft. This an other helpful postings are making things clearer as to my dads MN service and I getting closer to the hole picture. it's amazing how knowlegdeable and helpful people can be
    Many thanks

Hello, I cannot help with your enquiry but the name "LIBERIAN" came on this site when I typed it on my computer. My late father William Whitfield was 1st radio officer on the Liberian for one voyage in 1944. The Liberian was on convoy ON 248S to N.Y.C and returned on HX 309. The Liberian was the commodores ship on the return voyage. I have pictures of all my fathers vessels in WW2, I also have nearly all the convoy details for these ships which I list for your interest.
CITY OF FLORENCE 39-41 BRYNYMOR 41-42 CRAGPOOL 42 EMPIRE GREBE 42 DOMBY 43 DANBY 43-44 LIBERIAN 44 EMPIRE VOICE 44-45
OCEAN FAME 45 and EMPIRE PIBROCH 8-11-45 to 24-3-46. I am still searching for anything at all about all these ships, I am like a dog with a bone and I spend a lot of time reading and searching for anything interesting. My father joined the CITY OF FLORENCE as 2nd radio officer on 2/11/1939 aged 17 years and 8 months and left the service in 1950 and became a policeman in Preston. Unfortunately Dad died in his early forties of heart problems and is greatly missed by me.

Your post was a long time ago, are you still active? if so I may be able to help you a bit. I think my Dad joined as a passenger as your Dad left. Have Dad's recollections of trip to Freetown.

Hello - this is for David Whitfield

Reference your information about the Brynymor, I believe my grandfather James Davidson was chief officer on her from March 1940 until she sank in a collision in early 1942. Do you have any other information about the ship? I have the movement cards.
