The source i got that Pic from states it is a WW2 Cap Badge!??
Possibly that one was not really well looked after! It is ina bad way ! But who knows!
Its the same one!
I think it is a Sealion!

Indeed very similar Rob,i think its only the Lion (actual detail in the braided work) that is slightly different,but almost identical otherwise!

The one you show in the last attatchment listed by the North Wales Collectables is a poor copy of the original . The authentic one had a red tongue as your first attatchment . the Clan Line badge is another Internet almost look alike as well . The clan and union castle badges were

Both badges were still common in the mid sixties by the die hards of both companies who still some ten years later resented the take over .

The only European PO's on clan boats were the Chippies , who were designated as Deck Maintenence officers abnd wore silver sleeve braid and epaulettes . On King line & Bowater boats I dont remember the PO's cap badges

The top is a crowned lion on a merman ( Triton ) tail ,I have not got a clue as to what the heraldic designation is .

But the Cayzer Family Crest is a Sea-Lion

Now I am starting to wonder did the Sea Lion face forward or was it facing the Sinister . I honestly think ( Note Think is forty years ago ) it was facing forward , but there is an element of doubt

if you look at the original posted by Jason it is facing you and definitely has the face of neptune, triton or posiedon. It may be a ww2 badge but the cap certainly isn't assuming its british navy. That cap which is shown on several sites is the same design as the 1873 RN Artillery volunteer cap.I certainly think that it is more likely to by RN because of the colour to the cap.However as Vernon says we could be very wide of the mark.

I thought I'd post some more photos as I've obviously opened up a can of worms :o perhaps it will help date the cap and answer some questions?

Possibly someone will know the date!?? If so this will narrow the serach down i feel!
