Like everyone else mate wishing you a speedy recovery and will tell the lampy to hold onto your chipping hammer as you are not skiving out of that job mate
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

Chris, re your #27............ Shall visit him again on Monday (10th June) and give him a hard copy of these two threads as evidence of all the good will and kind wishes expressed by the members. Of course, I shall do my very best to keep you all advised of Doc's progress as it comes to hand. Incidentally, Sunday (9th June) is his 79th birthday. I'm sure he'd rather be spending it elsewhere, never mind, I know that next year he'll make up for it and really get stuck into the ginger beer.

Thanks Roger that's very kind of you. Yes his birthday on Sunday - I sent him a Birthday Card last week to his home so he should get it OK as I would think Irene would take his cards and pressies in to him. Thanks again Roger for your kindness.

Roger, I know you will pass on all the best for his 79th from al on site.

He has to me been such a great mate over the years, we have never met, yet our friendship has developed to the point where that is not an issue.
His assistance in so many matters, very often computer ones , has been invaluable.

So Vernon, Sunday I will raise a glass to you, enjoy the day mate with many more to come.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

I have met Vernon on many occasions in Sydney and in the Blue Mountains in Katoomba, a very generous and interesting man,
So I wish him a speedy recovery and a Happy Birthday tomorrow in those circumstances.
    Cheers Vern.
    All the very best

    Hi Shipmates,

Rather than wait until Monday, I delivered the hard copy of your good wishes to Vernon this afternoon (including yours Dave Williams). For about two hours we chatted and spoke of many things ( yes, including cabbages and kings). Naturally, he has concern for what his immediate future holds and when he elaborated I could understand why. When I tell you this, I've no wish to add to any concerns some of you may already harbour regarding Doc's health, but yesterday he was informed that he has seven blocked arteries. The smallest is a 50 % blockage formed at the site of a stent inserted 20 years ago. There are six other artery blockages, 2 x 70%, 1 x 80%, 1 x 90%, 1 x 95% and 1 x 99%, all of which suggest our mate has much to be concerned about, yet like shipmate, John Pruden, he accepts it in a philosophical manner we can all admire.

About 30 minutes after I arrived home from the hospital I received a phone call.....it was, Vernon. By the sound of his voice I could tell he was feeling quite emotional. Knowing that I intended posting this evening, he wanted to be sure you were all made aware of how very grateful he is for the support your kind words have given him.

I expect to see him again on Monday and will furnish any further info then.

    ..... Roger

You are doing a stirling job for all of us Roger, as for Vernon we can only wait and hope all turns out well, the surgeons of today are something special, my youngest son has just survived a major cancer operation, so i have every faith that Vernon is in good hands, he is an ex shipmate from my Stirling Castle days, so wish him well, kt
