    Default Stirling Castle crew 1965

    Hello again to you all,
Im highly interested in obtaining the crew list for the Stirling Castle in 1965. I understand this list maybe at the Maritime Museum in Greenwich. I have sent them numerous e-mails to see if they can confirm they hold the list, but I am not getting any replies from them. Am wondering if any of you chaps know for sure that they have the list, as the year ends in a 5. I did read somewhere that they have lists ending in the year 5 but I dont want to travel all the way there to find they dont have it.
I have written posts to enable me to find my partners Father, and with elimination from the National Archives, I do believe he worked on the Stirling Castle although I have not found his pouch yet. Its a tough battle trying to find him but Im hoping the crew list will confirm he was on that ship, then I can work from there. John Atkins is the person, being a greaser on board with the given age of 23. I hope these details were given as a true account of himself to my partners birth Mother. Once again, any information is greatly appreciated. Have a good day all.

    Default Looking!

    hI,
If you know his DOB and Place of Birth then he should be shown here!

    http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/s...ubjects=C10020

Just scroll thrugh and see if you can pick him!

As for the list of Crew on the Sterling you will be able to obtain that from the following site! This is where i got all mine from!
Just be aware that you will be charged as to the ammount of Crew you want,so best just to ask for the ones with his name on only!
    Cheers

Thankyou for your prompt reply Castleman....Ive managed to narrow my search to about 59 of the 204 Atkins through the BT 372 search. What I am worried about is perhaps he liked to be known as John, and maybe he had a different christian name. Is that likely for seamen at that time to use a name other than their real name ie as a nickname perhaps ?

    Default Name

Oh yes its quite possible but highly unlikely i think,as the records were more or less correct, that is why i asked if you know his actual Bithdate,or Place of Birth which would the give you an exact match!
He must be there as i have yet to find anyone of that time line that isnt there, except if the person was still at Sea after 1972 then there will be no records kept!
    Cheers Hope you hiy paydirt!

Did you see these posts of mine??

I certainly am looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack then
So if his service went beyond 1972, then I will not be able to find a pouch on him ?. Is that what you mean Castleman ? All I can hope for then is a definate John Atkins on the Stirling Castle by crew list only. Geez, it gets harder and harder. We dont know his birthdate, just the details I put in my original post. If he carried on as a seaman past 1972 then Im at a loss. Your knowledge and help has painted a clearer picture for me. But I am hopeful that "somehow" I will find the name "somehow".

    Default Yes!

    Yes Flyhead
Beyond 1972 records were ceased to be kept, the reasons to me even are unknown, perhaps it was just getting too much!
Do you know his Mothers Surname (before marriage) i ask this as if you do then i can look his DOB up for you!
    Cheers

His mum may have been unmarried too so the Surname could well still have been Atkinson!
So this then could well be his Birth! Which would have made him about 31 when on the Sterling!

But then if it is he was by the look of things still at Sea after 1972 as there is no record of him! Only one is this who i feel is too old!

Once again thankyou for your reply Castleman. I have looked at your posts but I too think that person would have been the wrong one due to age. Also, I can only go by the given name as Atkins and not Atkinson. I did manage to find a site that gave listings for the Stirling in 1965, but he was not on it. I sent an e-mail to someone and they said if he was taken from the dockside pool then he wont be listed as a crew member. Which leads me to ask....Would there be any records of his trip if he was taken from a pool of seamen ?

    Default Paydirt i think!

    Hi Flyhead,
I was looking at Atkins and now at Atkinson
Do you think that this may be the person in question! Could it well have been Atkinson??
    Born 1937 Manchester!

But the the other Birth Cet i posted gives one born 1934> The plot deepens!
But keep on searching i am sure you will get something positive soon!
And yes all Voyages were rercorded of Seaman taken off the Pool !

    Cheers

This would put him at 28 years old when on the Sterling!

If this is still not him then this Link covers the names from Athoe C N R to Atkins W J and i am sure youshould find him there!

PS What site did you get that Sterling Castle Crew List from?
    Thanks

    Note!

There are no John Atkins Births recorded on the Register between 1930 and 1943 so this again makes it harder and harder!
    Sorry!
