I went around Africa too and really enjpyed those Intermediate Trips, should have actually stayed with that run a lot longer, instead of going to the Mial Run

Yes sure would do it all again to Mike thats for sure!
All the best

To Alf Valentine re. Goodhope Castle.
My third ship was Goodhope Castle, Galley Boy, Home Trade, K.G.V. - Antwerp - Emden - K.G.V. 25-2-55 - 15-3-55.
Full history posted on Union-Castle site. Was in Tassie Oz day 88, 200th birthday, loved it. In small Maritime Museum in Hobart was a model of my first ship Port Jackson. Took photos and treasure them. My wife and I bought a camper in Cairns Qld. drove around Oz, loved it , the people, sceanery, way of life, we stored our camper and kept coming back for six months each year for thirteen years. We even drove our camper in the Oz Birthday parade with a bloody great sign saying "The U.S.A. wishes Oz A Happy Birthday". Anyway, it seems we were once upon a time shipmates. Good luck and best wishes.
Rodney Mills. South Carolina (where nothing could be finer).

GLOUCESTER CASTLE (July 15, 1942)
Union Castle Line passenger ship of 7,999 tons and converted to an Armed Merchant Cruiser, was attacked off the Ascension Islands, by German commerce raider Michel during a voyage from Birkenhead to Cape Town, South Africa. All her starboard side lifeboats were destroyed after which she sank about ten minutes later. Of her complement of 12 passengers (all women and children) and 142 crew, a total of 93 souls perished. Two lifeboats escaped the scene carrying 61 survivors but was later picked up by the Michel and transferred to her supply tanker, the Charlotte Schliemann, which transported them to Yokohama, Japan, where they were interned for the rest of the war. Two of the survivors died while in Japanese captivity.

Richmond Castle
Yes our parths have crossed as I was on the Richmond Castle fron 8/4/67 to 31/5/67 as AB Southhampton to Southampton ,calling at Capetown ,Durban ,Lerco Marks ,and back to Capetown where we spent quite a few weeks as had engine problems . Remember rading the galley late at night . Throwing the Deck boy in the canvas pool full of spottie small sharks we caught while at anchor and watching the poor kid walking on water screaming .
