Can anyone please tell me if Union Castle ever ran routes to South America, in particular Buenos Aires?
I am trying to establish the possibility that such routes were sailed between 1910 and 1935.

Thank you. I am researching my late father Clement Leslie CHANDLER
So far as I can ascertain he first sailed with Union Castle on the Llanstephan Castle on 16th December 1918.
However he seems to have used a name that was not his true name....his seaman's ID No. 383619, gives his name as: Basil Clement Leeke LEARY-CHANDLER. All other details such as next of kin and his photograph appear on the I.D. certificate!
So why all the fanciful additions remain a family mystery!
I am researching my late father Clement Leslie CHANDLER who signed on to the Llanstephan Castle on 16th December 1918.
I was wondering if you have any documents that your father, Capt. Bill Hartley, may have left about his time on that vessel or other UC vessels .
I have my fathers seaman's I.D. certificate No. 383619.....but it is in the name of: Clement Leslie Leeke LEARY-CHANDLER.
The fanciful additions to his real name are a mystery to the family. The I.D. is definitely that of Clement Leslie CHANDLER, as it has his photograph and correct details of next of kin.
ANY information you may have of that period would be much appreciated.

Enter as much about your father as you know by registering his details. I will then insert it into the People Search section and then we can see what happens.

In 1893, both Union and Castle Lines began a joint cargo service from South Africa to New York. The mail contract was renewed, again with the non-amalgamation clause
In 1911 the Royal Mail Line bought the Union-Castle Company, taking control in April 1912. A new ten year mail contract was signed. The first new ships now bore Welsh names – the Llandovery Castle and the Llanstephan Castle.
In 1914, the Carisbrooke Castle, Norman and Dunvegan Castle were commissioned by the Admiralty – the first as a hospital ship, the latter two as troopships. By the 4th September, 19 of Union-Castle’s 41 ships were on war duty.
I have not got a clue , but as part of Royal MAil , could they have been to South America or as part of a South Africa - New York Run
The nearest B&C ever came to the South American route was South American Saint Line (my original company) that B&C managed in the early 60s.
See: South American Saint Line
Before that Houston Line up until 1920s went to S American until part of it was taken over my Clan Line.

The Union-Castle Line History | Ancestry24 seems to indicate Americabn Connections , I have no way of knowing how accurate their information is
