Re: Kenya Castle.... 29th Dec 1967.
I do not recall any roaches on Kenya Castle ,only on the docks in Mombasa, we kicked them over the dock wall only to have them fly back up at us , like a boomerang. Now on the Queen of Bermuda in 1961 we bought a can of lighter fluid ,took the gear out of our tin lockers squirted in the fluid and threw in a lighted match, whoosh, then the sound of dozens of roaches falling to the floor of locker, everything in our cabin was metal ,but the bedding.

You do of course understand that for some of the locals that was a regular food supply you burned up.
Said to be a very tasty morsel, by some !!

I think a few of the old chuggers along the East and West Coast Runs were similar, the ones i recall that i were on, namely the old Dunnottar, and Warwick Castles were very good Ships but in need of a lot of loving care!
But good Crews on both and i really enjoyed my time on them both. Better Mates one could not ask for!
Great trips and times along those Barbary Coasts ! LOL
