    Default Ev ups

The take up of Ev is not as quick as many expected or wanted.
Many are coming to realize the complexities of owning one, such as recharge time and the access to charging stations when away from home.

The gov here has now come to realize the loss of revenue from fuel tax.
Currently we pay a fixed amount of about 50cents per liter.

    EV onl pay road tax.

Now the gov is to introduce a tax system for all EV .
It will be according to a gov spokesman, am I allowed to say that, it is estimated will be somewhere about 5 to 6 cents per kilometer.

    Has the UK introduced such?

If I read my info correctly (James will correct me!) EVs currently pay no road tax but it will be introduced this April, it is also muted that it will be by weight, as EVs are heavier than the equivalent ICE therefore cause more road wear, somebody woken up at last! However ICE cars are now being punished by local Councils as they are being charged more than EVs for parking in Council run car parks. Pay per mile is still on the cards for most vehicles, so George Orwell's 1984 is well on the road (pardon the pun) to being realised and we will become subjects of his Animal Farm. It is also muted that drivers over 70 will have restricted licences and will not be allowed to drive in the official hours of darkness, carry passengers or drive beyond 35 miles from their registered home.

In addition to John,s Post, dont know if i am correct but did i now hear that now ALL Vehicles no matter which will be having Road Tax put on them??
    Cheers

The association proposed “an effective and equitable national road-user charging system” that would apply to all vehicle types and a full review of vehicle taxes.
The charge should avoid discouraging the uptake of electric and hybrid vehicles, the submission said, and ensure all drivers paid for what they used.

#2, Glad to be of assistance Ivan

Under the plans laid out today, electric cars registered from April 2025 will pay the lowest rate of £10 in the first year, then move to the standard rate which is currently £165.

The standard rate will also apply to electric vehicles first registered after April 2017.

Forget about EV's this is the future for Cars Hydrogen powered.

The Nexo is a hydrogen fuel cell-powered SUV from Hyundai that the company claims emits only water and 99.9 percent filtered oxygen. In order to prove the car’s emissions won’t damage the environment, the company invited Olympic swimmer and brand ambassador, Mireia Belmonte, to run in a bubble filled with the car’s exhaust. Of course, they filmed the challenge.

For the promotional video posted on the Hyundai España YouTube page, the company employed the services of the Spanish National Centre on Hydrogen and a sports medicine center to make sure the process was safe. Assuming Hyundai’s claims are true, the air in Belmonte’s sealed space would likely be cleaner than the air most urban dwellers are breathing right now. She definitely didn’t have any trouble running on the treadmill, and even flashed a smile.

Not sure about modern cars but know if they where to charge by Kilometer/miles that it would not take long before I disconnected the speedo and installed a satellite one. Only connect to pay what I considered the right amount lol. Failing that put a reduced speedo gear in to register lower. Who is going to decide on distance travelled anyway as newer cars do not have to get a MOT/Pinkslip
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

In NZ there is no direct tax on diesel fuel.
But at the end of the year you have to show your total milage for the year to some gov department and pay tax on that.

Change your tyre size from say 18" to 20" will reduce your revolutions to cover the same distance and will register less miles as long as you do not alter the gearing on the speedo cable to accommodate the new tyre size, just remember to drive at 65mph on the speedo and not 70mph to stay within the speed limit of 70mph, other speed limits are available
