A non political post
Well I must say this, with a blanket ban on the one subject that was one of the big issues talked about on No Four Hatch; the site posts are shrinking. My wife is asking why I am out of my room so quick these days. None of us are within fisticuffs of each other, and one doesn't have to read every post if they don't want to, but if there are no posts to read ? Why not have a vote?

re: A non political post
Hi Des
While i do see your point, and a valid one it is too i also feel that the said Subject as we all know what it is,is i think widely enough Publicised over Television, News Papers , the Internet and so many other Platforms, that i am sure get most People much more that the y even want.
The downward trend now and again on site, is something that happens now and then, and will always be so. Like the Share Market it has its ups and downs, and we just ride with it.
If you think back some Years you will recall this i am sure!
As for a Vote on wether or not the dreaded Subject should be once again allowed on this site, is solely up to the Owner (Mr B Probetts) and he alone, so if you feel that this is an issue and want things changed, i think the correct thing is to approach him in the first instance and put this to him.
Not meaning anything at all towards you or anyone here Des, i as usual just do what is wanted of me from the Top Brass!
Cheers

Completely agree with Des on this subject. So much is happening in the world around us and we are the only people who are barred from discussing it.

Re: A non political post
There have been 3 major general elections in the last 12 months. These general elections in USA, UK and France, 3 major powers concerning defence , finance etc!!! and we are barred from voicing an opinion on any of the issues.
I will not raise the issue with the site owner as I am pretty sure I know what the answer would be.
As Des says if you do not like the subject just ignore it.
My wife says what's up with you ? you are to quiet , then she is out the door to what she refers to as her bitch and stitch club.
Makes me laugh when she gets back. sometimes she has a rant , see that Betty across the road , what a cow, next day they are away to town for a coffee and shopping.

#1 A vote? That’s certainly democratic but in the light of current posts surely political.

The problem as I see it Louis is that these "discussions" always descend into bitter disagreements and can become personal, causing disharmony in the forum in general.
I stick with my original position of not discussing politics or religion with my mates as its a sure fire way to a falling out.
Genial p-ss taking excepted as it was a common recreational pastime in our working lives.

Re: A non political post
I have to agree with tony.
At our age most of us have our view and belief in politics and politicians in general are fixed and only will be changed by either meeting in person or listening to them on mainstream media. Throwing brickbats and insults at other members of a site dedicated to merchant navy seafarers, past and present , is somewhat demeaning, the argument that you don't have to read all the posts to me doesn't to me, seems like a good enough claim to allow political posts.

Re: A non political post
Why can't there be discussion on this subject. ? . It's obvious that there will be wildly differing political ideals , but if it dose not end in discord then one can only
learn from another point of view - or am i wrong ?.
