Don’t think he will be popping in here for a cuppa tea Des. Last time I spoke to him was 8 or 9th July 1988. He was only a mere prince then and had another wife. Might bring back too many bad memories for him as well as me. I wish him well though and hope his present medical condition gets better. Cheers JS.
Did work with his old ship at one time though HMS Bonnington a mine hunter , but he wasn’t there then had retired from the RN. However any of his old crew living in Oz have no doubt he will make the effort to contact, he’s that sort of bloke. Cheers JS

None of the state premiers will be at the official reception with the PM, pure bloody mindedness as most claim to be republicans.

The majority of Australians have taken to Charlie boy and are happy with the status quo, even happier with Bill and Cathrine.
What would the womans magazines do without them?
If it aint broke, don't fix it.

The republican claim they want an Australian head of state, but we have one, the gov general in Canberra.

Most are not educated to understand the system.
Australia is one of about 47 countries within the British Commonwealth of nations, of which the UK monarch is head.
The monarch has nothing to do with the way any country within this group operate.

In 1907, Sir Edmond Barton, the first PM of Australia after he left politics became the head of the judiciary for the nation.
He declared that the head of each state and federal would be the gov general of each.

In 1948 Australians were issued with their own passport, until then they had to use UK ones.

So we are in all but name a republic.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Being republicans then John they should be only too pleased to club together and purchase the likes of Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef outside of Cairns and practice their jaundiced views among themselves. There should just be room for them there and not evoke the ire of the rest of Australian citizenry. Entry to the mainland would only be for their holidays and to go shopping by invitation. JS.

    Well John.
Part of your statement is wrong, The Queen did interfere in Australian politics, the letter she sent the Governor general to sack him, was released after thirty years, to the head of the Sydney Library under a thirty year rule, she promised to publish it after she had studied it, she never did, in fact I have never hard about her since, but many believe it contained something to the effect the the Governor General should remove the Prime Minister. Someone may have put the frighteners on her.

Similar has happened to me over the years Des. I think and believe this site is often looked on by undesirables of the shifty type only using it to cause strife. At the other end of the spectrum you will have government agencies following any leads to so called aspects of any dangerous people of whatever nationality using it either to gain information or sow the seeds of unrest. Big Brother is indeed watching you. You will know by the back hairs on your neck if they start to bristle. That’s if you have any left that is ? I have joined the domestic part of household duties like you and took over the cooking a couple of months ago, hoping it was temporary but alas seems I’m stuck with it. Your lucky if still only doing the dusting on a Sunday , do you wear a pinny ? Just joking of course, as
probably get into your orange boiler suit with Sydney Harbour Maritme on the back. Cheers hope the eyes and your driving sorted by now. JS

Des, it was the Gov general who sacked the gov back in 1975.
As with all such events the gov in UK was informed.

The Queen could do nothing as the monarch is not allowed to interfere in political matters.
She may well have aired her views and maybe they were recorded but would be of no use.

It was the downfall of Charles 1 that saw the change in parliament.
Until that time the monarch had been head of it and could do as they wished.

When Charles 2 came to the throne the position of speaker was established, there to represent the crown.
Only power is to cast a vote when and if there is a situation where there is no majority and party shave the same number of votes so a tie is setablished.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    JSW John.

John. count yourself lucky if the only thing you are doing is the cooking. I suddenly, when my wife died. inherited, the cooking, shopping, laundry, dishes and pots, dusting, cleaning our brass collection with Bluebell, and that's now living in an apartment, If you wanted to stay in your house, add small repairs, gardening, etc. to the list of chores. Yes, if you can afford it, you could hire garden service, cleaning service and laundry service and call the supermarket to deliver food and cleaning supplies, and probably a liquor store to deliver a bottle or two, but if she was working bang goes the second income and if she was on social security, say goodbye to that too. That goes with her. Well they say "Lifes a bitch and then you die." So, it's count you're blessing, give her a kiss and a hug and peel them spuds.

    Cheers, Rodney

I know where you are coming from Rodney as the same happened to myself last March. Mind you had a few years where being chief cook and bottle washer plus domestics. Financially was a bloody headache sorting out the banking and pension. Did you find that it did not take long for the authorities to find out she died. Mind you the flip side is that I win all my arguments now LOL
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.
