Return to maker
Not sure if you have a bottle deposit scheme in UK but we have one here in all states./
Must admit though Victoria was the last state to introduce it.
Most plastic drink bottles and all beer cans along with some beer stubbies have a 10 cent deposit on them.
Last year I saved all mine and took to the deposit center.
For my effort $85 easy money.

Re: Return to maker
I can remember as kids we used to get a few pence for returning pop bottles. I think some councils around the UK have a system in place. The amount of plastic bottles you see lying along the road side is disgusting, tossed from cars, lorries.

Yes we have the same here, but, it's the council leaders that get the dosh back. We sort them and put them all in gash bags, and they run them in. We also pay for the trucks that run them in.

Re: Return to maker
Sounds like a typical council scheme for you to do the work and then to get the pay.

Re: Return to maker
Similar here, pay extra for a garden bin but the council then sell on to garden centers.

Re: Return to maker
#1 When I lived in Canada our Scout group used to hold “bottle drives” to collect bottles and take to recyclers . It was a great fund raiser and used to take part twice a year . The funds were used for equipment ,maintenance and a discreet fund to help poorer children attend Camps outing etc. without them feeling like 2nd class kids.

Well James your in the wrong place. Aberdeen City council charged £30/year. They now say as it is unpopular it will be abolished, strange as the current city debt is £76.000.000.

Re: Return to maker
We have three bins one for the tip food scraps and the likes, one for the plastics , bottles and waste paper and one for the green waste which is composted and sold to whomever, all in our rates, which are not excessive.
Woke up this morning to find soldiers patrolling the streets, didn't have slanty eyes, so I thought that the opposition was taking over the Govt, then I realized that it was time again for the Duntroon boys getting out to play, for UK people read Sandohurst.

Re: Return to maker
Before the bottle buy back came into being the Boy Scouts here collected cans for cash.
Every Saturday morning they would come to a point in town and put what they had collected into a bin.
That would be collected once a month and the scrap value money paid to them.
That system now gone.
