    James ,i sailed on her sister ship the Royal Ulsterman my first ship as deck boy. Forecastle accommodation for the deck crew and a coal fired stove in the little messroom, and my bunk under the anchor chain pipe. I done 9 months on her and then as JOS worked very long hours ,however i must say looking back i enjoyed my time on her.

    My Step Uncle Lt Robert Carnochan DSC RnR was killed whilst serving on her during the landing at Sicily, he was awarded the DSC whilst in North African waters, the Officers and crew got a memorial plaque for him in Glasgow. Sadly no photo of him. He is buried in Tunisia
