Marian, myself and my wife were sat in the garden about an hour ago, and a sparrow hawk , swooped down, very close to the pair of us, and in a split second , took a robin. No more than 5-6 meters from us. in a way its our fault because we feed the birds, but of course, its nature at work, that Sparrow hawk will have youngsters to feed. Still feels sad to see it though.

Jeez, I use flies I make myself when I fish. I think I would do better if I went bare footed and let my nails grow and got new specs to sharpen my eyesight up, but forget about flapping the arms I have to have a rod in my hand.

It must take a lot of power to take of from the water whit a fish that size, especially when you see a fisherman struggling to haul a catch like that in. I noticed that the Herons never turned a feather.

    Des.

When you fly fish, the object is to try and catch a trout on as close as you can with what trout are either jumping out of the water to catch or
sipping from the surface, under the surface or in the bottom of the stream. The flying insect are often very small, thus your fly must be equally as small (called matching the hatch). This means you must have a very fine leader to threadle this tiny fly, Which in turn means the breaking strain of this leader is !/2 lb. to a lb max and you can have a three or more lbs trout take your fly. One has to play the fish very delicately or the line will snap. True, a lot of the regular equipment fisherman use a 10lb line to catch a 2lb fish. that's not for me.

I Fly fished off the beach in Tully Heads, Queensland and caught, landed and had for TEA, a 17lb Queenfish with my beach flyrod and a 5lb leader. It took me almost an hour to bring it in. I wish I knew how to add a photo, I have one of me, Queenie, My fly rod and a sh@t eating grin. I had hooked two others but because of the struggleing and having to let them run and then start over working them back to the beach the fish struggling attracted "Nobby Clark" and the sharks bit them off and left me the head.

    Cheers, Rodders

Now if you want a bit of good old fashioned British comedy in line with the title of the thread then search out

'DINNER FOR ONE' with Freddie Frinton and May Warden, finding and attaching it is above my pay grade! I do have it in a German CD sent to me by German Friends who say it is tradition to play it on New Years Eve in Germany
