    Default £10 poms

Last night i watched the first episode (of six) of the above programme.
Some of it is based on a true story -so they say.
What i found supprising was the ships name in Sydney harbour-THE FAIRMORE.
When looking for this ship on my usual search sites, its nowhere to be found.

Watched it last night as well looks as if it mat well be entertaining. I wonder will any of our aussie mates will get a cameo roll as the series progresses.
I should imagine the ships name was air brushed in digitally?

Not surprised Mike, said ship looked like something from their props department! Hope the storyline improves as the antic's by the main actress [the eye candy element] is doubtful and leaves much to be desired. Pity because the true facts on the social aspect on the ordinary families who upped sticks would be way more interesting in my view. You can catch the complete programme now on BBC i Player.

Marian, its nice to know someone else watched it.

Many years ago when my wife and I were younger ,we tried to emigrate to New Zealand.
We were not allowed because my wife has EPILEPSY.
We told them it was not catching, but we were still not allowed.

As said in a previous Post Mike , i will keep an Eye out for this Series here, and hopefully can watch it as well, if its put on our Foxtel or Free to Air channels! But it is possible that they may only have it on something like Stan, or the likes!??
Will wait and see, i know it is shortly coming though!
    Cheers

To find the truth speak to some of the Ten Pound Poms.
My brother in law and his wife were some, it was anything but easy when they arrived.
As he told me, bit like coming to a third world country back then.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

They should also make a Series called 20 Rand Yarpies!
As that was what the then fare costs on a similar basis for South Africans Immigrating to Aussie!
My Sister In Law was one with a Lady friend of hers , they came on non other than the Himalaya , not knowing then that my late Uncle Dusty was aboard on the same trip!

#1 there may be a Cunard connection to this thread. I sailed on the four 'sisters', Sylvania,Carinthia,Saxonia,Ivernia out of Liverpool on regular transatlantic runs. When that trade declined due to air travel coming more convenient, Cunard sold two of them, Sylvania and Carinthia to Sitmar Line, who converted them for cruising and renamed them Fairwind and Fairsea. The reference to Fairmore in post #1 appears to be of a similar connection.

I watched the tv of the POMS and thought it was a load of rubbish

I was on the Georgic taking £10 pond Poms to OZ, six weeks LIVERPOOL TO M MELBOURNE. VIA Cape Town
We went via the Capaaa as five little kids died in the Red Sea, we sewed them up in canvas and buries them , SAD.
A lot of trouble on her. families oseperated TEN to a cabin males and females seperated in the cabins. I went to visit one family
a few months later near Melbpurne They sharing a nissen hut with another family and one cold water tap/
in an ex army camp. they all wanted to come back to UK, NOT what they were promised.

    Cheers
