    So seeing as we have been talking about fish. We have a mobile fish monger parks up in a local pub car park. As I had a meeting to go to I was passing the pub and I spotted his van
    It must have been talking about fish that prompted me to see what he had on offer. Never the cheapest but best you will get round here.DSC_0023.jpgDSC_0024.jpg. Nice big fillet of North Atlantic Hake at least that was what the guy said. There is 800 grams in that fillet. So half of it will be dinner tomorrow niight and the rest will be in the chiller in the fridge set at 4 degrees.
    He looked at me and was embarrassed to charge me £17.00 for it. I thought that was a fair enough price.

    Good old Rick Stein, Has to be one of the best Chefs in the UK when it comes to sea food.

    Hake with chorizo and potatoes (Merluza à la Gallega)

    Ingredients
    50ml/2fl oz olive oil
    2 onions, sliced thinly
    6 garlic cloves, sliced
    2 tsp paprika
    70g/3oz chorizo, cut into cubes
    100g/4oz padron peppers or other tiny green peppers, sliced (or 1 large pepper, diced)
    900g/2lb baby new potatoes, halved lengthways
    85ml/3fl oz dry white wine
    300ml/10fl oz water
    8 x 100g/4oz or 4 x 225g/8oz hake steaks
    salt and freshly ground black pepper

    Now what wine would those who know there whites choose to go with that I am thinking a Chardonnay!!

    Just picked my wife at Mill Dam S, Shields; she has a big bag full of cod and coley, so that's my dinner sorted tonight and the freezer restocked,

    #1, a very cold Savion Blanc would go well with that.
    Chardonay a bit overpowering for some fish.

    #1 After paying 17 quid for a fish supper I reckon a chilled Chablis might be suitable.

    how many did you get for that, seems a bit steep for just one.

    Market Price for Hake today is £23.00 for a kilo. There is 800 grams so at £17.00 thought that was reasonable.
    I do not mind paying for quality fish, Also the guy drives around the North West. Trying to find a fish monger in my area is as hard as finding hens teeth.

    Talking of food around the world, my worst experience was in Borneo.
    Walking along some dayak village, an old lady was sitting by the edge of the dirt road cooking some meat. The guy I was with said "lets have a look and maybe have a bite to eat", I felt a bit iffy about eating anything like that, but agreed to have some. She got some pieces out of a basket and cooked it while we waited. Then we got a piece of wood with the cooked meat on and we tucked in. I said "it must be chicken" and I asked the lady what it was. She didn't understand, so I made to look like a chicken, making silly clucking noises, and flapping my arms. She shook her head and made a kind of snaking movement with her arm. I was shocked and thought it must be a joke. She lifted the lid on the basket, and inside were a couple of live snakes. I immediately riffed it all up in the road in horror, with the other guy falling over laughing.
    He'd been there before, and knew the score. After that, I would never eat anything in those market places unless I saw what was on offer.

    Food glorious Food! How many here have tried )If Ever) Babootie!! A lovely spicy Cape Dish made by the Malay Quater, its not easy to make as you have to have the skill to really do it correctly, but it is possible to get real close with trying!

    Well had a lovely dinner thsi evening . Literally from Prep to serving less than an hour. Thourghly recommend it was delicious. Clean plates all roundHake & Chorizo.jpg Nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, from Chateau Lidl

    Only used half the fillet so the rest is in the freezer.

    There are many 'different 'foods to be had in many places.
    Here in Oz Crocodile meat is very tasty, bit like chook, then in NZ you can have Possum pie, they are considered a protected species here in Oz but vermin in NZ.
    Dog in Vietnam and China, Monkey in some parts of Indonesia Snake in many parts of Asia along with insects such as Crickets and others.
    Then the Abbos like Witchery grubs, white large wood lice type of bugs, eaten raw in some cases.
    Come over for a meal some time.
