Regardless of were my nearest supermarket is.
I shop in the likes of Birkenhead & Saint Johns in Liverpool market, a good day out is also Chester & Wrexham Market a bit more than 20 miles from Prenton. Same reasons as Tony. Never seen Oxtail or other what would be deemed as Offal in a Tescos or Sainbury's type super markets. Pre-pack fish, bloody hell when you open it the smell would turn your stomach Maybe some are happy with pre-packed meats and fish but that is something I rarely buy
Doc do you have a crock pot type slow cooker? The secret is cooking time.
Yesterdays took me just over 6 hours.
The meat fell of the bone just sucked the bones dry as well.
This is what I added.
The butcher had already diced the tail.
I trimmed as much of the fat off as I could.
So just browned and sealed the meat for about 10 minutes in a little oil in a frying pan.
Removed and set aside the meat.
Chopped 2 small onions 1/2 a leek and 3 sticks of Celery +3 cloves of garlic.
Added a beef stock cube and water bring to the boil. Add a table spoon full Plain Flour to thicken the mix and two Bay leaves+Salt & Pepper
Place in the pre heated Crock pot slow cooker. add the Oxtail
Half way through the cooking add 100cl of chicken stock the zest of 1/2 a lemon and a good squeeze of Tomato puree.
Desired herbs I added Thyme & Oregano also a 1/2 bottle of red wine, Served with Spud , Carrots and Broccoli.
I cooked the whole tail so there is another meal in the freezer.
Thanks for the Recipe James will have to give it another bash, and see what happens! Yes i have a Crockpot, as well as a good Cooker which can be put on Slow , Steam Rice Cooking etc. Think that may be the bet one to use! Although the Slow Cooker is also great as i have used it many times for Soups!

Doc, its a crockpot I use.
My recipe is simple, chop veggies (spuds, carrot, onion) place oxtails on top, pour on water till just covering crumble couple oxo cubes, leave for about 6 hours on low or when meat falls off bone, chuck some peas and/or sweetcorn for last 10 mins. I don't usually thicken but its very versatile, you can thicken if you wish, or chuck in other veggies to your taste.
Tony, sounds very nice, might pop over next time you have it on.
But for that recipe you need an oven.
I do not use such, either air fryer, BBQ or the Wok.
The Wok is one of the most versatile items in the galley.
In that you can fry either deep or shallow, boil, bake, even roast, stir fry, poach make soup and many other menu items.
I only use my Wok for the Chinese Foods i make, only way!
Things like Sweet and Sour Pork, Lemon Chicken, Pork and Plum Sauce and so many other one can make up.
The Fried Rice is one of my Favourites, make a good one i do!

No oven mate, just a slow cooker, uses between 60 - 80watts of power. There are various makes on market, mine is Crockpot but there are loads of makes out here and all are relatively chap to buy, come in a variety of capacities. Currently on Amazon a 1.8ltr Crockpot is |£14.99 and a Daewoo 6.5ltr at £39.99 with various makes and sizes in between.
Call in any time John, beer fridge always well stocked, though after a six hour wait you might not be in a fit state to eat anything.
Guess what this numpty did:mad: while putting the Crock pot away after cleaning it I dropped it on the floor. It bounced but at the time it looked alright. On closer inspection there is a hair line crack round the base. So I says to the wife it looks as if it is just the glaze has cracked. Thought maybe the old crack test will reveal all. If no crack it will make a bell like sound, if it is cracked it will make a dull sound.
Perhaps I should not have used a hammer to test it, honestly all them years doing a hammer test in Doxford crankcase you would have thought the old skills would have been retained. Yep it sure was cracked , well it is now, my wife actually called me a dozy barsteward:( But as you say Tony they are not all that expensive. I thought I could have got a replacement Crock. Not worth the hassle so Argos will be getting a sale shortly.
