I don't think you can compare today with hundreds of years ago, even 50/60/70 years ago. London was a tiny place at the time of the great plague and the population was tiny compared with today. Even during the smog it was different to today, plus of course you must include possibly a million or two people that are not accounted for in the official population counts.
I reckon if that plague occurred with the population of today, we'd see millions killed, if it weren't for the way they turn out vaccines these days.

There is really no such things as comparisons , it is an artificial word used by politicians and those wanting to cause unrest in the general community. Look who was the forerunner in bringing climate change into public awareness none other than a failed President of the USA. He would have done more kindness to the world if he had done the norm and gone and written a book about himself or chosen a well known Charity to endorse. Politicians are people with high estimations of themselves and always want to remain in the limelight where they think they can maintain a following , a politician who doesn’t do so is dead as a political object. James Curry I think that it would prove more usueful to just beat your head against the brick wall than try to get your point across with some on this site mate. Recall when working a fellow work mate that would always come up with some relative or other to prove their point and of course there was never any chance of consulting with said relative or other. Think that they say? Like talking to a brick wall. The one you are beating your head against lol.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

No, we are all entitled to our opinions and good discussion between others is good for personal guidance.

Those of you who know Oz will no doubt have heard of the Nullabor, a very large stretch of land covering some 200,000 square kilometers.
Now just a desert, but it was not always that way.

Between 5 and 3.5 million years ago it was wet enough to sustain one of the largest forests in the land.
The world went through a climate upheaval, the Arctic began to freeze with rainfall and sea surface temperatures decreasing.

Changing conditions, be it climate, rising and falling sea levels have always been a part of the environment of this planet.
No matter what man may do he will not change anything with regards to weather patterns or the manner in which the environment may change.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.

John 34, now that is something i do agree with, the climate , in my opinion is definitely warming, and the weather pattern changing. Where they think that we are able to alter this is the problem, it would take a world agreement to slow down any pollution, this in a time when all the major powers cannot agree on anything, and are too busy developing major war rockets etc. there is too much hot air just talking about it.

London was at one time, a tropical seascape, with crocs, sharks, and all the swampy, foresty things going on. Plus of course it was iced up for quite a time. Now it's like a chilly African/ Asian/ Eastern European kind of place. The times they are a changing.

Gaddafi was right when he said, we don't need to fight you, we will swamp you, we have children, you have dogs

Not really been to london that often apart from travelling from A to B. But did go to a show a lot of years ago. Metup with friends and they had reserved a table at some restaurant. As soon as we sat down and they took the order. As soon as the first dish was placed on the table the waiter placed a thing like an egg timer in centre of the table. What's that for, when that pings you are adding 20% to your bill. This is because we need the table. Paid for the first course and got up and walked out, bugger that for a game of soldiers.

Don’t really think you would have fitted in with the old wartime londoners. With your oft repeateted lambashments of the British people ,never mind Malta receiving the George Cross the people of London should. Have received as well as other cities . JS
