If you want to remove it #7 then find some roots just under the soil, drill a couple of holes in them and fill with Glyphosate a very common weed killer.
Fill the holes with soil, cover up the roots and just sit back and wait.
Within six weeks you will see the tree begin to die.

Colin, use a saw, make two circumferential cuts about an inch apart and remove the strip of bark, it might take a year or so to start seeing results.
Do it now before the sap starts to run.

glyphosate is being banned in many places now. Someone in states sued one of the big manufacturers for megabucks as it can cause cancer

No worries here with it mate, sold as Glyphosate 360.
Also the main ingredient of Round Up one of our main weed killers.
But if not then any good weed killer in a concentrated form will do as well.

About 5 years ago the Royal Horticultural Society brought out a non toxic weedkiller, so I bought some to try. It smelled a bit like vinegar (acetic acid) so I did some research and apparently that is what it is, with some added surfactant (washing up liquid/degreaser etc) which breaks down the surface wax on some leaves. So I bought a 5ltr container of white vinegar, added some Teepol, put in a pressure sprayer and sprayed dandelions etc. works a treat. Smell is only noticeable when spraying so take usual precautions.
Good results at less than half price of conventional weedkillers.

Not like me then Tony. We had a lovey scented rose in a tub; it got aphids, so I thought about what my father used to do, soapy water, I mixed some clothing washing soap with a little vinegar and sprayed it, the tree died in a week. a year later I still suffer some glares from my wife.

Well there are benefits in such a mixture.
The vinegar can go on your fish and chips, just make sure the soap bit is not included.

You can also use a strong salt water mix or even dry salt on someweeds.

Some councils will agree to removing a preservation order on certain tress. If you agree to make a donation or plant new trees on a site nominated by the council
